چکیده

By \V. C. YOUAYr, L. D. FAY, D. L. HowE AND H. D. HARTE K NOWLEDGE of the normal physiology of the various species of wild animals is essential for the study of disease, nutrition, reproduction and related subjects bearing on the scientific management of game animals. In the course of our work on disease and nutrition in game species we have frequently been hampered by a lack of information on hematologic and biochemical values for these species. Most of the data of this nature appearing in pertinent literature are limited to one or two instances when the animal has been brought to the observer’s attention because of some pathologic condition or physical impairment. information on healthy wild animals is cxtremely scarce. Wintrob& gives figures on hematology for several wild species, but the information is based on relatively small numbers. Additionally, due to increased importance of wild animals in the field of epidemiology, \ve were interested in determining what hematologic values might be in some of the non-game species. \Ve hesitate to say that these data represent “normal” values, as they are based on animals under stress of handling. They are representative of apparently healthy animals handled as described. Admittedly, the conditions ufl(ler which we obtained the blood samples are imperfect, and a number of stressors involved undoubtedly affected our results. However, until better, more sophisticated technics are devised and employed, we feel the data presented will aid in forming a standard for comparison.

Effect of Sodium Bicarbonate and Sodium Chloride on Renal and Hematologic Factors in Patients with Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency

Background: Sodium bicarbonate serum therapy is used for compensation bicarbonate lost and increasing blood pH in metabolic acidosis caused by severe anemia in patient with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency. The aim of present study was comparison the effect of serum therapy using two different serums (serum with bicarbonate and without bicarbonate) on some renal and hematolo...

Evolutionary Analysis of Mammalian ACE2 and the Key Residues Involved in Binding to the Spike Protein Revealed Potential SARS-CoV-2 Hosts

Introduction: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spilled over to humans via wild mammals, entering the host cell using angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) as receptor through Spike (S) protein binding. While SARS-CoV-2 became fully adapted to humans and globally spread, some mammal species were infected back. The present study evaluated the potential risk of mammals...

Pharmacotherapeutics in Exotic Small Mammals: an Update and a Review

Introduction Pharmacokinetic studies in exotic small mammals are lacking and, therefore, most of the dosages used in these species are based on empirical data, observations, and experience. Because drug uptake depends on factors such as age, sex, physiology, disease state, diet, etc., it is important for us as veterinarians to know some of the pharmacobiologic, physiologic, and anatomic charact...
